Includes files on the functions carried out by 41 and 43 Groups of RAF Maintenance Command under the Ministry of Aircraft Production are. These were the storage, distribution, repair and salvage of aircraft and restoration to operational standard.
Defence of aircraft factories and the ferrying of new aircraft to Units together with the responsibility for the inspection of all material and equipment before delivery from the manufacturers' premises, carried out by the Directorate of Aeronautical Inspection are also covered.
The security classifications with which certain records are marked have lost their significance.
The earliest files derive from the Air Ministry plain numbered series, the "B" prefix being added for identification and the "S" indicating "secret". The later series prefixed "Contracts", "Research" and "Secretariat" cover Production, Research and Development and Services.
