Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Republic of Ireland Department: Registered Files (WL Series)
This series contains records of the Republic of Ireland Department dealing with UK relations with the Republic and in particular the relationship between Northern Ireland and the Republic.
In 1972 a separate Republic of Ireland Department was established by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to handle all aspects of relations between the UK and Ireland in the light of the deteriorating security situation in Northern Ireland. Functions dealing with relations with Ireland were transferred to the new Department from the Western European Department.
