| Administrative / biographical background: |
The Dependent Territories Administrative Staffing Unit was established in 1969 to manage appointments and staffing matters in the remaining Dependent Territories, and to provide general advice on constitutional and related questions in the Dependent Territories. In 1971 the unit was formed into a department, the Dependent Territories General Department, and then in May 1972 was absorbed into the Gibraltar and General Department. The new department continued to use the HX file series, which from 1 May 1972 therefore also contains records relating to Gibraltar. This arrangement continued until 1977, when the department was abolished. Functions relating to Gibraltar passed to the Southern European Department, and the general functions to the new Hong Kong and General Department. |
