Foreign and Commonwealth Office: North America Department: Registered Files (AM Series)
Records in this series concern UK relations with Canada, the United States of America, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and other overseas territories administered by the United States, and Arctic affairs.
The records are arranged by original file reference within annual cycles of registered files.
In 1971 the America Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office was split, and separate Latin America and North America Departments created in its place. The North America Department handled UK relations with Canada and the United States of America, and overseas territories in the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea administered by the United States, as well as UK interests in affairs in the Arctic region.
