Administrative / biographical background: |
The Director's Private Office was established within the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment (AWRE) in 1954 to administer and co-ordinate the work carried within Aldermaston and the AWRE outstations at Foulness, Orfordness and Woolwich. Between 1980-82, in addition to the Director, the Office was manned by a Principal Deputy Director who was responsible for liaison with Ministry of Defence Procurement Executive. In 1992, the post of Director was replaced by the position of Chief Executive. |
