The files contain some unpublished material, including descriptions of the actions leading to nominations for commendations, awards to foreign subjects, awards to fishing fleet personnel, army ranks of gunners given civil awards for concealment purposes.

The papers on the files frequently relate to actions dating from months, sometimes years, earlier.
