Jacques Edmond Charles MEFFRE, alias Victor John Edouard HOWARD. A highly decorated French army officer in the First World War, Commandant MEFFRE was appointed Chief of Security at the headquarters of the Free French Forces in London in 1940. He became involved in, and may have joined, a plot against the head of the Free French Navy, Admiral MUSELIER. As a result, though he was not prosecuted, MEFFRE was interned for the duration of the war |
