Secretaries of State: State Papers Foreign, Military Expeditions
Mainly original in-letters and despatches (with some copies) to the Secretary of State from the English or British military commanders in the field in the Low Countries and Germany, concerning military campaigns and diplomatic negotiations. The campaigns include those of the War of the Spanish Succession (1702-1714), the War of Austrian Succession (1740-1748) and the Seven Year's War (1756-1763). Many draft replies by the Secretary of State are included, especially in the later volumes.
The records include orders of battle, reports from battlefields (including some casualty figures), court martial proceedings, arrangements for embarkation of troops, reports on shipping at Dunkirk, etc.
