The records in this series concern the provision of UK National Lottery grant funds by the Olympic Lottery Distributor to the London Organising Committee for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

LOCOG was responsible for staging a memorable London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Olympic Lottery Distributor made three separate grants to LOCOG for the following activities: the staging of the London 2012 Paralympic Games; the Cultural Olympiad and Festival 2012 and the network of Live Sites Screens.

Administrative / biographical background:

Aligned to its role to provide financial support using UK National Lottery funds for the planning and implementation of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Olympic Lottery Distributor (OLD) Board approved support to LOCOG as follows:

  • A grant of £66 million was approved by the OLD Board in June 2011 to help fund delivery of the London 2012 Paralympic Games;
  • A total grant of £16.5 million were approved by the OLD Board to fund projects which were part of the Cultural Olympiad and Festival 2012;
  • Total grants of £3.4 million for a network of ten Live Sites Screens situated throughout the UK.

The OLD grants were subject to a number of conditions, the purpose of which was to provide the basis for effective monitoring of the use of National Lottery funds and to secure value for money.
