Admiralty: Widows and Dependants of Seamen and Marines Pensions, etc.
Pensions and allowances to widows, children and other dependants of seamen and Royal Marines whose deaths were attributable to service other than warlike operations.
These pensions and allowances were instituted in 1883 and were originally administered by Greenwich Hospital. Responsibility for payment was transferred by the Admiralty to the Ministry of Pensions in 1916: their administration was re-transferred to the Admiralty with effect from 1 0ctober 1921 by the War Pensions Act, 1920 (10 &11 Geo V, c 23) and an Order in Council of 7 November 1924.
