Description: |
Engelbert BRODA: Austrian. A scientist, BRODA came to the UK in 1938 and took a leading role in a group of Austrian refugees, many of whom were Communists. He was interned briefly at the beginning of the war on account of these links but was later recruited to do research work at the Cavendish Laboratory on the Tube Alloys project where he worked with Alan NUNN MAY. After the war it was said that he was an active member of the Austrian Communist Party in the UK. In 1947 he returned to Austria. An MI5 source who mixed in the same circles as BRODA stated in 1945 that he believed that BRODA had been involved in Communist espionage in association with Edith TUDOR-HART |
