Account of Thomas Barbur and John Scoryour, Proctors of the Guild of the Holy Cross, the Blessed Mary, and St. John the Baptist, from the Morrow of the Feast of the Guild, 5 Henry V., to Monday next after the Feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul in the [ ] year of the reign of the same (sic) King Henry VI. (sic)

 

Arrears

 

Rents of assize. (104s 4d the rents of assize of the shops and lands of the Guild in Stratford, Shotryth, and Bruggeton, beyond the rents leased to the Guild Chaplains.)

 

Fines of the light. (42s 6d the fines of the light of divers Brothers and Sisters in arrear, as appears by a schedule indented of their names delivered to the aforesaid Proctors.)

Allowances of rent

 

Delivery of moneys. (3s the chief rent of the Guild Hall, 5s 4d paid for keeping the "horascopium," 17d for 2 small "ver" and 1 "peele" of iron, 10s in part payment of the stipend of Thomas Sheperd, Chaplain, &c.)

 

Necessary expenses. (Expenses incurred in the Hall for victuals for the Master, Aldermen, and others, being there for three days at the rendering of the Account for six years of John Leke, Master, and of the Proctors' Account, and transacting other business; 14d for 9 bushels of wheat to be made into bread; 3d for baking it; 3d for bread bought; 3s 1½d for 30 gallons of beer bought at 1¼d a gallon; 17d for 14 ribs of beef; 3d for shin bones and marrow bones; 12d for 5 "pestell' porcin'" and for pork; 10d for mutton; 13d for 11 pullets; 1d for corn for the pullets; 9d for 2 sucking pigs (porcell'); 3½d for a capon; 1d for vinegar; ½d for garlic; 4d for a goose; 3d for salt; 1d for oatmeal; 3½d for "gynger," pepper, and saffron; ½d for mustard; 4½d for fuel; 4d for charcoal; 15½d allowed to the Proctors for wine, and for their trouble; 8d allowed the for parchment; 5d for bread and beer in the house of Thomas Smyzth after the election of the Master and Proctors.)

 

Small necessaries. (2d for 2 "rafters pro ryallis" for 2 windows made in the house of Roger Sadeler, 8d for mending the cloths and towels of the Guild Hall, 4d for washing the same cloths after the account, 3d for mending the look of a coffer (cista) before the Altar of the Holy Cross, 8d for washing the cloths after the Feast, &c.)

 

After this follows a list of the persons in arrear in the payment of their light-silver referred to above, with the amount due from each, making the above-mentioned total of 42s 6d.
