Administrative / biographical background: |
Loxton Street Board School opened in 1883 with accommodation in one department for mixed and infant children. Standard VII classes for girls opened in 1885 here and at Icknield Street Board School after Bridge Street Standard VII for boys had become a success. The mixed and infant children were divided into two separate departments in 1889. The school was reorganised in 1930 into two departments for senior boys and junior and infants. The Senior Boys Department became a separate school in 1945 [see S120]. The name of the school changed in 1954. It closed in 1964. |
