Description:

On 13 September 1856 George Catt of Bishopstone conveyed a plot of land (purchased from the Earl of Chichester: see PAR247/24/1/1) for use as the site of an almshouse, in memory of his late wife, Mary Anne Catt (née Cooper), for poor and aged persons not in receipt of parochial relief. He endowed the almshouse with a £50 rentcharge on his tidal mill at Bishopstone, which on 30 September 1867 he converted into £1667 invested in New 3% Annuities.
