Administrative / biographical background:

The Hackney Gazette is the most important of Hackney's local newspapers. It started publication in 1864. Until 1909 it was entiitled the Hackney and Kingsland Gazette. From 1945 it incorporated the North London Advertiser. Previously published thrice weekly as a broadsheet, it is now a weekly tabloid, and is owned by Independent Newspapers Ltd.
