Administrative / biographical background:

The Company was formed on 4th April, 1886 by Thomas Smithies Taylor and his brother William in a small factory in Slate Street, Leicester. Herbert William Hobson joined the firm in 1888 and the Company became known as Taylor, Taylor and Hobson Limited and moved to new premises in Stoughton Street, Leicester.

 

In 1911 Taylor, Taylor and Hobson Limited took over the firm of Allan and Stallybrass of Newcastle-upon-Tyne whose works were subsequently transferred to Leicester.

 

The firm is now known as Rank Taylor Hobson Limited and is a member company of The Rank Organisation.
