Administrative / biographical background:

The Infirmary was opened in 1898 as a branch of the Victoria Infirmary, Northwich (see NHC 1/3846/1), but it appears to have developed as a separate institution shortly thereafter with its own Board of Management. In 1939, it had 36 beds. With the advent of the National Health Service in 1948, it became part of the North and Mid-Cheshire Hospital Management Committee, and was transfered to the South Cheshire HMC in 1968. It was closed in 1972.
