Title: STEPTOE'S CHARITY
Description:

This charity was founded under the will of John Steptoe, made 20 February 1667, and proved 20 March 1673. The work of the charity seems to have started in 1674. Steptoe left land in the parishes of Fawley and Milford, the rent from which was to be used for the poor. Of this money, two-thirds was to be used for loans to young "beginners", the other third was to be distributed annually to the poor. See Charity Commissioners' Report, pp. 173-176.
