Administrative / biographical background:

Donald Sinclair purchased the property at 23 Kirkgate, Thirsk, in 1939 and turned it into a veterinary practice. Sinclair himself specialised in horses. Alf Wight became his assistant in 1940. The practice's area covered an area extending to about seven miles beyond Thirsk, but during the period of TB testing during the war the area was much larger. The name of the practice was retained after both Donald Sinclair and Alf Wight had retired.
