Physical description: 6 series
Administrative / biographical background:

The Park Street Boys' School and Park Street Girls' School started life in 1827 as the Warwick Street Branch School of the Brighton Central Schools. In 1873 responsibility for the management and finance was transferred to the incumbent of St George's and the schools became the St George's and St Matthew's CE Schools. When the schools moved from the Warwick Street premises to disused buildings in Eastern Road in 1881 they became known as the Eastern Road British Schools (although they were not the same as the school of the same name which had previously occupied the premises, 1828-c1858 see E/MA/16). In January 1884 the management of the schools was transferred to the Brighton and Preston School Board and they were then called the Eastern Road Board Schools. On 8 November 1889 the boys' and girls' schools moved into new purpose built accommodation (which included an Infants' School, see E/SC/271) and were renamed the Queen's Park Board Schools. The Brighton CB Education Committee issued a notice on 23 July 1909 stating that owing to the confusion arising from name of schools, that in future they were to be known as the Park Street Council Schools. By February 1920 they were known as the Park Street Boys' School and Park Street Girls' School. The national school system was reorganised in September 1928 and the schools became Park Street Senior Boys' School and Park Street Senior Girls' School. In September 1940 the two senior schools were amalgamated to form Park Street Senior Mixed School. From April 1945 it was renamed Queen's Park Secondary School; this school closed in July 1975 and the pupils were transferred to the new Stanley Deason High School
