Title: | Orford Borough and Orford Town Trust |
Description: |
The municipal history of Orford can be traced back to the grant of a charter to the town by Henry III. This original charter is lost but was confirmed by successive sovereigns (see Section I). The Borough returned two members to Parliament from the reign of Edward I until the Reform Act of 1832. The town was not affected by the Municipal Reform Act of 1835, but in 1886 the Corporation was abolished under the Municipal Corporation Act of 1883. Thereafter, the town was administered by the Orford Town Trust, directed by the Charity Commissioners.
