Immediate source of acquisition:

Deposited by the Headmaster in April 1977 and March 1979, with the exception of E/102K/5/1-3 and E/102K/8/1-2 which were transferred from the County Treasurer's Department on the 29th of November 1978. Also deposited with the above, documents now listed under E/Misc. 37, MP 1653-1657. PH 7228-7232. and Add.Ms.23,938.

 

The items deposited in March 1979 include a collection of papers which had been acquired by the late Mr. W. Albery and were subsequently returned by him to the school. These papers were listed in N.R.A. Report on Collyer's School documents. (Copy available in Record Office)

Administrative / biographical background:

Founded in 1532 by Richard Collyer, mercer. Rebuilt in 1840. In 1889 the old school premises were disposed of, and later became Denne Road Boys school (102E). New buildings were erected in 1892-3. The boarding establishment closed in 1935. Duckering Hall and new buildings were opened in 1964.
