Catalogue description Sarah Ann Thatcher, the sister of the donor's father, outside her fishmonger's shop, 163 London Road, Hazel Grove c. early 1900s. Sarah's husband Jonathon predeceased her. Sarah's nephew, also Jonathon Thatcher ran the business for her. He continued to do so after her death in 1915 until his own death when the business was sold. Sarah suffered badly from arthritis and in her last years went to live with the donor's parents at Vine Cottage. Both Jonathon and his nephew went to Smithfield market in Manchester early weekday at 6.0 a.m. to buy fresh fish, travelling by horse and trap. Once a week 'young Jonathon' visited all the farms in the Poynton, Woodford area delivering fish. He carried it in a box on the back of his trap. The donor often accompanied him. As it was an open trap, he remembers getting soaked when it rained heavily. He also recalls waiting outside the pub 'the Thieves' Neet' whilst Jonathon had any children who could take over the business. Reverse: in manuscript: Mrs. Sarah Ann Thatcher, Fish and Poultry, 163, London Road, Hazel Grove.
