This collection comprises research notes on the history of Lealholm, Glaisdale, Danby and the local district.

 

John Davison was born in Stockton, he had a connection with Lealholm from childhood, when his family holidayed there; his parents subsequently built a house in the village. An accountant and shipbroker, he spent his working life in South Wales and moved back to Lealholm on retirement. He was a member of Whitby Rural District Council, 1958-1974, being chairman 1966/67, and served on the North Eastern Development Council. He was a preacher on the Danby Methodist Circuit for 20 years. A honorary life member of the Whitby Literary and Philosophical Society, he was Hon Keeper of the Whitby Museum, 1962-1972. He was author of The Manor, Lordship and Parish of Danby and wrote articles on local history for the Whitby Gazette under the pen name "the Chronicler of Lealholm".
