Miss Edrica de la Pole (1856-1946) was the fifth daughter of Sir William de la Pole, 9th Baronet of Shute House, Shute, East Devon. She developed an interest in horticulture whilst living at Shute and was granted a small plot in the gardens to utilise as a "farm". Oh her father's death in 1895 she moved to Pound, near Hawkchurch, Devon, and thence to Tremar, Kingston, where a residence was built for her and her sister Geraldine in 1900.
