Details of 2003/066
Reference: 2003/066
Title: Woolworths plc
Description:

Encouraged by their American parent company, the British offices of F.W. Woolworth and Co. began opening stores in the Empire and Commonwealth from the mid C20th, starting with Jamaica in 1954. These stores were governed from Britain until 1982, when the company was broken up and sold on. Many of the stores became independent operations after this time, and some are still open today.
This collection of material, mainly photographs, relates to Woolworths stores in Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, Zimbabwe and Cyprus. Alongside the photographs, which depict the exterior and interior of stores, is a 1970 development plan for the business district of Port of Spain.
This catalogue was produced with support from the National Cataloguing Grants Programme for Archives.
