This collection comprises an account book bearing a twentieth century label identifying it as a wages book relating to Peter Cato's shipyard at Salt Pan Yard, Church Street. Internal evidence, however, suggests that these accounts relate to the shipbuilders Eskdale, Smales and Cato. It records disbursements, cash in hand and bank balances.

In the 1790s Ingram Eskdale occupied a shipyard above Spittal Bridge, later the site of the Whitehall Shipyard, and Peter Cato a Salt Pan Yard, at the bottom of Green Lane. It was the former site that was occupied by Eskdale, Smales and Cato.
