Title: | Records of Eskdale, Smales and Cato, Shipbuilders |
Description: |
This collection comprises an account book bearing a twentieth century label identifying it as a wages book relating to Peter Cato's shipyard at Salt Pan Yard, Church Street. Administrative / biographical background: |
This collection was deposited in July 1961. In the 1790s Ingram Eskdale occupied a shipyard above Spittal Bridge, later the site of the Whitehall Shipyard, and Peter Cato a Salt Pan Yard, at the bottom of Green Lane. It was the former site that was occupied by Eskdale, Smales and Cato. |
