Served as Aide de Camp to General Officer Commanding Southern District, 1870-1871. Commander of Transport, Ashanti Expedition, 1873-1874. Served as Private Secretary to Sir G Wolseley, Natal, Feb-Sep 1875. Served as Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster General, Aldershot, Jan-Feb 1876. Served as Military Secretary to Viceroy of India, 1876-1878, and as Private Secretary to Viceroy of India, 1878-1880. Served as Chief of Staff, South Africa, Jul-Oct 1879. Served as Governor and Commander in Chief, Natal, and High Commissioner for South East Africa, 1880-1881. Killed in action at Majuiba Hill, Transvaal, 1881. |
