Administrative / biographical background: |
Alsager, originally a township in the parish of Barthomley, was governed by the parish vestry until 1894 when its civil responsibilities were transferred to the new Alsager Urban District Council under the provisions of the Local Government Act of that date. In 1974 it amalgamated with several neighbouring urban and rural district councils to form Congleton Borough Council. See LDC list for post - 1974 records |
