The collection includes papers relating to the Crimean War, the Chinese wars, Ireland, The Indian Army and the condition, supply and general status of the army during the period covered by the documents. There are many letters and other records relating to Florence Nightingale and the setting-up and improving of army medical facilities including The Army Medical School. There is also an amount of miscellaneous material, some dealing with emigration.
