Title: A. Renwick Sheen to Lawrence [Bragg]
Description:

Forest Row 2 pages, MS

Is enclosing letter he had from Mr [-?-] Foreman. Would be grateful if Bragg could find out anything about the Malting House School. Quotes advertisement which appeared on 1 May 1927 for a scientist to teach children aged 4½ to 10 at the Malting House, Cambridge. The advertisement included the sentence: "It is as yet uncertain whether there exist any special factors limiting or making undesirable the introduction of children of 4-10 to scientific knowledge & scientific thought". Sir Ernest Rutherford, Percy Nunn and J.B.S. Haldane were to assist with the final selection of candidates. Would like to discuss the implications of this with Bragg. It seems an example of the modern tendency to "force the child's intellect prematurely to the great detriment of the other sides of his nature". Would like to know if anyone was appointed and when the Malting House was closed.
