Hartford Hall Miners' Rehabilitation Centre was opened in May 1944. It became one of seven centres in England & Wales established to provide health care for injured mineworkers. The first of these centres was established as an experiment in the Midlands in 1939 by a group of colliery owners with the co-operation of The National Union of Mineworkers. In April 1951 responsibility for the centres was transferred to the Ministry of Health. |
