Pearse family of Thornham, Devon

Physical description: 31 Files
Administrative / biographical background:

These documents relate to the Pearse family which owned land in the parishes of Ermington, Modbury and Ugborough, mostly around Ivybridge. Although Thornham seems to have been in the family from the late 18th century at least, it does not seem to have become the actual main home until bequeathed to William Pearse by his father (also William) in 1820 (see 1164/2). Prior to this the family seems to have been based at Fillham and Shute, both in the parish of Ugborough.

Thornham was split between two parishes: in Modbury was the actual house, whilst the accompanying estate was mainly in Ermington.
