He began his ecclesiastical career at Whitwell Derbs. where he stayed for 34 years. He was also honorary chaplain to the 4th Battalion of Sherwood Foresters. However in 1908 he resigned his living at Whitwell and began Missionary work in South Africa, later becoming head of St. Bede's College, Umtata, Cape Town. He died on 30 March 1928.
