Administrative / biographical background: |
The Wordsworths seem to have come into Penistone in the 14th century as a result of the marriage of Nicholas Wordsworth and Elizabeth, daughter and heir of William Proctor of Penistone. William Proctor was presumably a descendent of Thomas le Procuratour who appears in 3/4 and 3/5. There were a number of branches of the Wordsworth family in the Penistone area but it has not proved possible to establish how the Wordsworths of Schole Hill relate to the other branches |
