Details of D3060

Title: Ecton Copper Mines

Most of the documents refer to the mines on the Devondshire estate, but two (or perhaps one or so more) refer to the mineral rights of the Burgoyne family (of Potton and Sutton, Beds.), who had retained these when they had sold their share of Ecton Hill in 1648.

Further division in the documents can be made between those of the period (upto c. 1825) when the proprietors were involved in administration of the mines, and the mid century documents which were drawn by for various companies to which minerals workings were leased.

The documents are clearly a small survival from what originally existed in much greater quantities.

Though primarily about copper mines, lead mining is also referred
