Badger, arriving Apr 29, to house prepared by Sultan; Walter sharing; road-surface instructions passed to Mayes. Unable to use heavy carts as keeping open through shortage of trained bullocks. Aden steamer takings down because of opposition from Br. India & Union, a steamer chartered Bombay-Zanzibar by Tana Topan, free-lancing French vessal. Missionary attempt to replace coolie transportation by bullock-cart failure through tse-tse fly. Comments on photos of Dar-es-Salaam em-closed (inside the envelope).
