Copy court roll of Manor of Southtyng, alias Hampston Weeke, alias Bysouthtyng.

 

Francis Earl of Bedford, Lord Russell, Knight of Order of Garter, Warden of Stannaries of Duchy of Cornwall in Co. Devon, and John Williams, alias Cholwyll, Bailiff of the Manor, and William Ayshe, Thomas Yolden, John Hoper, William Avery, alias Taverner, Stephen Benett, George Benett, John Cornise, Barnaby Thomas, Robert Cornyse, John Ellys, John Benett, Thomas Hoper, Richard Hurston, John Loskyn and Thomas Wylle, alias Ferneworthy, suitors at said Court and Manor.

 

Testify that among pleas enrolled at Southting at the Queen's Court held this last day of Feb. 19. Eliz. (1577) is one witnessing that William Smyth brought a writ of right directed to the Bailiff against Edward Whiddon Esq, ordering the Bailiff to do right to Smyth as to one messuage, 80a. of land, and c, in Ellecombe, alias Ellacomb, North Bovy and Chagford, of which Whiddon deforced him.

 

Recovery with Wm. Hodge and Nicholas Bennett as Vouchees.
