Administrative / biographical background: |
George Darlington, builder, house decorator and plumber of High Street, Amersham, is listed in Kelly's directory for 1883, but not in an earlier one for 1871. The 1899 directory carries an advertisement for G. Darlington, builder and decorator, of Amersham and Chesham and mentions brick kilns at Hyde Heath and Cowcroft, Chesham. The kilns are also referred to in a similar advertisement in 1907 in which Darlington is described as a builder, contractor, brick manufacturer and building materials merchant at High Street, Amersham. The accounts show that the firm also acted as undertakers. Works undertaken were mainly in the Amersham - Chesham, Wendover area. |
