Title: [Lawrence] Bragg to [F.E.] Smith
Description:

Beaulieu 4pp, MS draft

Visit to Smith was concerned with possible consequences of selling inefficient, expensive apparatus to the Turkish Government and not with the provision of apparatus to the British Army. Comments on reports on the Mark I apparatus which make the same criticisms. [A.P.] Sayer seems inclined to consider his (Bragg's) suggestion that a number of 1918 model sets should be put in hand as a standby; comments on this.

Discusses the negotiations with the Turkish Government about the sale of sound ranging sets and the proposal to sell the Mark II set rather than the Mark I set. An independent expert should look at the apparatus before they have a discussion with representatives of the R.E.& Signals Board.
