Title: SAINT THOMAS HOSPITAL: PAPERS OF THEOPHILUS CHARLES NOBLE
Description:

These documents, formerly part of Ms 3502, were purchased in the late 19th Century by the Guildhall Library from Theophilus Charles Noble, antiquary, of 79 Great Dover Street, Southwark. They comprise an incomplete manuscript history of St Thomas' Hospital, notes made by Mr Noble for the Continuation of this history, and documents, mostly treasurer's papers, from the archives of St Thomas' Hospital. These were probably purchased by Mr Noble from James Coleman, bookseller, of High Street, Bloomsbury. His notes include extracts from James Coleman's catalogues relating to other items from the archives of St Thomas' Hospital dating from 1519 to 1761, which were offered for sale. These include the accounts of the Hospital of the Savoy for 1519, a valuation of the possessions of St Thomas' Hospital dated 1538, and surveys by Christopher Saxton of the hospital's estates at Teversham 1589, Crofton 1587, and Somertons in the parish of Sunbury 1587 (see Acc 2866/02/002/8).
