Administrative / biographical background:

The pharmacy of William Gulliver was established at 33 Lower Belgrave Street (renumbered as no 6 in 1874) soon after the street's completion in 1827. In 1883 it took over the management of the nearby pharmacy of C Anderson which had occupied 23 Lower Belgrave Street (renumbered no 43 in 1878) since about 1844. In 1922, the business was sold by the Gulliver family to Mr S V Roberts, in the hands of whose family it remained until 1962, when sold off by his son, Mr H V Roberts.
