Nature of request: [This petition is fragmentary] To the most excellent, most . . . our most sovereign lord . . . your poor liege, John Hoton, humbly requests that, whereas . . . plaintiff on the one side and John Schakel who is dead and afterwards Thomas . . . judgment was given for the said petitioner's party in your said . . . by the party of the said Thomas Stokes, executor, and one John Wroth, knight . . . with the principal, which judges, by their legal process in this matter pronounce . . . the said defendant to your royal audience [and] judges by your commission and . . . who have proceeded in it to various judicial acts, wishing to do justice to the [parties] . . . but they will not be able to proceed further, or to put an end to the said case, according to what . . . frivolous delays made by the said defendant to delay the said case . . . such delays are not checked by you. May it please your royal . . . said case and give a just ending to the aforesaid parties, according to what . . . by the said defendant, considering that the said case has been pending . . . of appeal made by the said defendant for sixteen years, in prejudice . . . this part as you have previously aided him in his great need . . .
