Reference: SC 8/290/14461
Description:
Petitioners: Bishop of Agen.
Addressees: King.
Occupation: Bishop of Agen
Nature of request: The Bishop of Agen makes makes several points concerning a pareage entered into between himself and the king concerning jurisdiction over the city of Agen:1) He asks that the Seneschal of the Agenais and the king's other ministers might be ordered to uphold and maintain it in all its articles, notwithstanding any grants made to others.2) He states that the emoluments of the seal are to be common between the king and the bishop, if it is continually, or almost continually, held at Agen, and if there are continually clerks at Agen to receive obligations to be sealed with the seal. He asks that if this is so, what it means might be clarified, and that he might be admitted to his rights in these emoluments, according to the tenor of the agreement.3) He asks that the king's ministers might be ordered to put all other letters granted by the king to him into execution, according to their form.4) He asks that the king's ministers might be ordered to protect and defend his person, estate, goods and possessions.5) He states that the king's people have ordered him to build and operate his mint, especially because of a certain zeal for the king's benefit. He asks that he might not be disturbed or compelled concerning the making of money for the time being, as it cannot well be operated at present because of the value and weight of money; and besides, if he does so, the king's mint at Saint-Macaire will suffer for want of bullion.6) [The start of a sixth request has been deleted.]
