Title: | Exchequer and Supreme Court of Judicature: Queen's Remembrancer: Indentures of Appraisement |
Description: |
These indentures of appraisement were filed under the Queen's Remembrancer Act 1859 and arise from the institution of proceedings in the Exchequer and, after 1880, in the Queen's Bench Divisions of the High Court of Justice for the condemnation of goods or other property seized as forfeit to the crown under certain laws relating to customs and excise. Writs of appraisement were abolished under the Crown Proceedings Act 1947. The series includes a register of indentures, J 123/27, which gives summary particulars concerning the date on which the indenture was filed, the department concerned (Board of Inland Revenue or Board of Customs and Excise), the port or place, the seizing officers and a brief description of the goods or property and its value. |
