Description: |
These Board of Inland Revenue ledgers show the number and value of duty stamps impressed on newspapers in England (London and the Provinces), Scotland and Wales. After 1855, the figures relate to stamps impressed in lieu of postage, a practice which was discontinued in 1870 with the introduction of halfpenny stamps for newspapers and other printed matter.
