Reference: SC 8/217/10832
Description:
Petitioners: John Middelmore.
Name(s): Middelmore, John
Addressees: Council.
Nature of request: John Middelmore requests remedy, stating that by the tenor of a fine made in the time of King Edward, the manor of Edgbaston ought to descend to him and the other children of his mother following her death. However, her husband, Clodeshale, has forcibly seized the manor and prevented Pulteney and the other feoffees from entering.
Nature of endorsement: On 19 February in the ninth year, it was agreed to send a writ to Clodeshale summoning him before the council at the quindene of Easter next.
Places mentioned: Saltley, Warwickshire; Edgbaston, [Warwickshire].
People mentioned: Isabel Middelmore, mother of the petitioner; Richard Clodeshale of Saltley, esquire, husband of Isabel Middelmore; Edward [III], King of England; John de Pulteney.
Note: The endorsement is dated 19 February in the king's ninth year, and a note on the guard identifies this as Henry V (1422). This known history of the family would suggest that this is correct.
Date: [1422]
