Details of SC 8/198/9899
Reference: SC 8/198/9899
Description:
Petitioners: Robert Darcy, esquire, and Henry Fylongley (Fillongley), Keepers of the Writs.
Name(s): Darcy; Fylongley (Fillongley), Robert; Henry
Addressees: Commons of parliament.
Occupation: Keepers of the Writs
Nature of request: Robert Darcy and Henry Fylongley state that Robert Manfeld was given the office of Keeper of the Writs by Richard II for term of life, but surrendered it when Henry IV granted it to Robert Darcy; Henry V then granted it to John Hotoft at pleasure, and Robert Darcy was granted an annuity in compensation. Robert Darcy recovered the office at the start of the reign of Henry VI, renouncing the annuity, and on 16 October in the King's nineteenth year he and Henry Fylongley were granted it for the term of their lives. But recently, certain persons, aiming to supplant them by showing these letters to be not effectual have acquired letters patent for the office made to them on 17 September last. They ask the commons to ask the King, with the assent of the lords and by authority of parliament, to ordain that the letters patent made to Robert and Henry might be good and allowable from the date of their making.
Nature of endorsement: [On face] Let it be sent to the lords.[None on dorse]
