Nature of request: The merchants of Almaine make three petitions:1) Andrew de Camp and John de Catlonde state that they have twelve cogs with their merchandise in the port of Scarborough, and that the Bailiffs of Scarborough have forced them to unload their goods and are demanding outrageous tolls from them; and they will not cease even for the King's letters. They are content with what they have already paid, but now ask that they may return to their country with their cogs and the remainder of their goods.2) John de Lubek has eleven cogs in the harbour of Newcastle, loaded with merchandise which the bailiffs have taken for the King's use. He is content with what he has already paid, but now asks that he may return to his country with the cogs and the remainder of his goods.3) The merchants complain that John Ducre, burgess of Newcastle upon Tyne and keeper of the River Tyne, has taken goods from their cogs by force, not for the King but for his own use, and ask for a remedy for this.
