Description:
Petitioners: Abbess and convent of Barking.
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: The abbess and convent of Barking request that they be discharged from the repair and enclosure of the park of Havering in Essex, by which they have been greatly impoverished and ruined daily before this time, for a yearly rent to the King in lieu thereof.
Nature of endorsement: A commission should be made to Buxhill, Gildesburgh and Bampton (or to Buxhill and another of them) to enquire into how long they have been held to make and maintain the enclosure, in what state the enclosure is now (ruined and weak or in a sufficient state), for what amount of money it could be maintained each year and other circumstances necessary in this case. This inquest should be returned to the King so that he can do grace for the reasons stated in the petition.
Places mentioned: Barking, [Essex]; Havering-atte-Bower, [Essex]; Essex.
People mentioned: Alan de Buxhill, knight; John de Gildesburgh, knight; John Bampton.
